woah! my head is crammed with figures and terminology and hopefully it'll make more and more sense as more and more pictures are taken.
i signed up for a photography course to learn my camera and to gain a better understanding of all the terms photographers use: ISO, aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, light meter, rule of thirds, focal point and the list goes on... i did a google search and came upon the company gta photography (www.gtaphotographyclasses.com), they offered a weekend '101' bootcamp in oakville (main location is in toronto) so i decided to give it a try. the instructor was great, so knowledgeable and very patient with all our questions. i was in awe of how much he knew and how quickly he knew where everything was on all our different cameras! 
after a day in-class, having homework and having a review the next day we went on a field trip to get some practice.. i've attached some of my attempts. i was telling a friend that although they may look like a simple picture, for me, they are an accomplishment because i took them using proper technique rather than simply by fluke and changing buttons and not having a clue why i was changing them and how they affected the end result.

if you love taking pictures and want to learn the "manual" mode on your camera, you should check out the courses they have to offer, it's definitely worth it!
