i joined the circus...

...for the night! :)

my friend, alicia black, joined me in my venture this month in a trapeze class! i know, it's random, but it was a lot of fun!

i wasn't quite sure what i was going to do for june, and my sister (Paula) suggested looking into doing a trapeze class. i did a quick google search and found "toronto school of circus arts" (i had no clue this even existed here!) i checked out the site found that they offered a drop-in class on friday nights... so i booked alicia to join me in this crazy adventure.

once we got there, we got our harnesses tied SUPER tight around our waists and got our instructions on what to do, and no joke with a blink of the eye we were apparently ready to start. there was 10 of us in the class and i'm pretty sure there was a gasp from all of us when Deker, the instructor (and owner), said, "ok, who's up first... jim" and that was that, jim started to climb the ladder! :s

we made our way through the line up... alicia was first.

here are my attempts.

even though i had sweaty palms and the fear of death on my face when i jumped off the platform, it was definitely a great experience!  apparently, next time... swinging from someone else also on the bar!! yikes!!

besides sweating because i was so nervous, the building was also pretty warm, and in conversation waiting at the bottom of the ladder Deker suggested an ice cream place for us to try - called Dutch Dreams - and with my handy-dandy iPhone we were able to navigate ourselves there and enjoy a delicious treat! yum. :)
dutch dreams
my cone... melting before i even paid!
the decor was eclectic.. to say the least!
lots of random signage...
these are my visible wounds... i'm not entirely sure how i bruised, my only guess is from having to crawl across the netting that we landed on in order to get off?? (non-visible wounds lasted for days too... it hurt to laugh or sneeze or cough - it's definitely a good core workout!)

ps. looking for suggestions for august :)
